Well a humdinger of a day was had by all down at Gold mountain. With everyone turning up,this made an amazing 11 teams & 44 players competing in the scramble. The main highlight had to be Lanna capt Gary Lyon making a hole in 1!! The ever popular Gary has at times struggled with his game, but he's now achieved what most of us will never do. Going off with his driver on the 178 yd 12th hole, most of it over water & evidently "the toughest par 3 in Chiang mai!" the ball landed just short of the green, ran up the slope & into the cup.Going off both the 1st & 10th tees from a random draw, everything went off very smoothly. The cool morning air giving way to quite warm temperatures particularly on the back 9 wh
ere the heat seems to build up in the valley. Most had buggies though so it wasn't too taxing on us.The fairways are in good condition, but with 4 long par 3s & some long par 4s, one according to Christian's viewfinder 490 yds, scoring wasn't that easy.
The winners in a 3 way tie all with gross 73, were Team 4: Kieran, David H, David S & Nigel. Team 7: Mr B, Colin, Phil W & Gordon L. & Team 1: Scott, Les, Jimmy & Gary Burke.
Nearest the pins: Hole 2 Corky. Hole 7 Nigel. Hole 12 Gary L (Hole in 1!). Hole 17 Gordon L.
Longest drive: Hole 3 Mr B...the only name on the card!
A rumbustious g
roup stayed on afterwards while the sun set over the yardarm, aided by Gary & Mr B's prizes. An interesting journey home for some, Jimmy stopping for sustenance at a roadside pitstop, where the fayre seemed to be barbecued intestines & fat on a bone!! Enough said! Many thanks to all who took part & for making the day what it was...Great fun.
Oh yes it's that time again. We're long overdue a scramble & as we've not ventured down to Gold Mountain for quite some time, we'll be holding one there on Thursday November 26th. It's a great format for all abilities & also it gives us all the opportunity to get together.
Teams must have a handicap of 100+ at the time of nominating. Usual scramble rules apply. Please contact usual characters if you'd like to participate.
200bt entry each (800bt per team)
Cash prize for winners + other prizes if sufficient entries. Booze for nearest the pins.
Select your own teams with a combined handicap of 100+. Handicaps accepted at time of nomination, this is to simplify things in case a member gets cut in the run up & then we have to reorganise the teams.
Nearest the pins must be on the green.
Minimum of 3 drives per person (not counting par 3s). The person whose drive is used does not have a second shot, this also applies to the 2 'spare' drives. The person whose drive is used marks his ball with a tee, picks up & the remaining 3 players hit their ball from there. All players can hit subsequent shots.
Please remember with putting if you putt very close to the hole & tap in without giving your team mates the opportunity to putt, that score stands. Always remember to mark!
One scorecard for each team, clearly scored & marked with who has driven on each hole.
If you have nominated that you will play, it is imperative that you turn up, otherwise you've badly let down your team!
